Weekly Breadcrumb: Try a New Recipe

Posted on January 11, 2026January 11, 2026 by Kristen

Weekly Breadcrumb is a weekly series where I look back on what baking has taught me, shown me, or reminded me over the previous week. A lesson, or gift, I have received from baking.

This week, I made banana nut bread, as well as cornbread. Both of these recipes were brand-new to me. And tonight, I have dough fermenting as I type, following a recipe I haven’t tried before.

I tend to stick with tried-and-true recipes for something once I find it. For example, there’s an easy chocolate cake recipe that’s good and reliable. It is pretty much the only recipe that I follow when I want to make chocolate cake.

This week, I decided to follow some new recipes. This was kind of a big deal for the banana bread, since I have made banana bread following the same recipe for decades. I did think twice for a few seconds about making it, knowing that this banana bread would taste different than the one I usually make. But then I realized that we might like this one better!

So, was it better? I think it might have been. We really enjoyed it. Trying a new recipe is a bit of a risk, especially when you usually follow one that you know works well. But how “risky” is it, really? Be daring and try the new recipe! 🙂
