How I Store My Homemade Bread

Posted on December 6, 2025December 6, 2025 by Kristen

The way you store your bread (and baked goods) should be special – here’s why.

How and where do you store your bread, once it has cooked and cooled? There are a lot of options – a bag, a bread box, beeswax, aluminum foil.

I store our bread right in my trusty blue Dutch oven on the countertop. The bread stays good for a few days in here. What I really like about this way of storing bread is that I love this pot. It’s sturdy, it’s a pretty color and I love to see it on the countertop.

Not only is it nice to look at, the sounds it makes are pretty, too.
Each time we go for a slice and lift and replace the lid, it gives a light clanging sound like a bell; the music in our kitchen that signals it’s time for bread.

So taking out bread now feels like a ritual. When we can make ordinary activities feel festive, it adds so much to our day. Kind of like when you store cookies in a pretty cookie tin. Or even placing some cut flowers in a glass Mason jar – making your space and your life feel extra meaningful.

You don’t have to go out and buy a fancy container. See if you have a favorite pot, or maybe a pretty bowl with a lid, that you can use to store your bread.

It could make your baking experience that much more special!
