Weekly Breadcrumb is a weekly series where I look back on what baking has taught me, shown me, or reminded me over the previous week. A lesson, or gift, I have received from baking.

This past week (and recently overall), has felt difficult for me. Kind of a low period in certain respects. Some of my zest or zeal for various things I like to do, including baking, has waned a bit.
Going through the motions, though, often reminds me of how much I like certain activities, and gets me back in a better headspace. Even pouring the grains into the mill, hearing it turn into flour – it’s a happy sound to me. Especially if I’ve had a few days away from baking. And then kneading the dough, there’s something very soothing about it. It doesn’t feel like an exaggeration to say that making a loaf of bread feels like a significantly hopeful thing to do.
I promise I’m not in a super dark place. It’s just that I’ve noticed feeling lower energy, and I’m working to bring my energy back to where it belongs.
I hope you are feeling well, and that you continue to keep doing the things that make you feel happy. Even if it feels like you have to make yourself get started sometimes, doing so can get you to a better state of mind!
